Thank you for this article. I constantly say this to people. Be kind, not nice. But I started to notice people not always understand it or it’s actually not really true. It’s indeed both. So again thanks for this good explanation.
Being kind is better than been nice. Showing kindness is an act of self love but being nice would make you not to leave your values thereby living a mesirable life to please others. But when you're kind you'll help others and also find fulfillment.
When kindness is your value, you have to be kind to yourself as well. And let's not forget, often times when you focus exclusively on pleasing others, but forget about yourself, people often burn out and build resentment. It's human nature.
Good insight. It takes more courage to be kind. Being kind is an instinctual act with some risk that the other person is not ready or receptive to your feedback etc. But worth the risk because of the everlasting impact you can have.
I have been working towards being kind over nice, but it's not easy!
There are so many situations where you intentions are perceived differently or goes against the organization culture (e.g., lack of physiological safety).
I would love to hear any insight around how should I prioritize it or when it's time to let it go and move on. Thanks!

I found myself having to explain this difference way too many times. Happy to hear my clarification is useful!

Amen. Too few people know the difference. 💝
Yes! I was surprised this confusion still comes up in my coaching groups, hence I felt the need to write this article. Glad you enjoyed it.
Interesting article. Learned something new today and good food for thought
