> The truth is: You already have a personal brand, whether you like it or not.

There are very few downsides to building a personal brand, I agree, and I’m also building one.

But it's still a valid choice not to go public with it. Taking your career online might earn you some benefits, or it might not. I’m considering it more like an investment that has the potential to go 🌝

Taking your career online is always helpful, but it's absolutely not required (see myth #4). An alternative route that doesn't even involve social media could involve open source communities, public speaking & conferences, other writing engagements. Still not required, but a nice bonus.

Again, I'd even go to saying that it's dangerous to over-invest in your external image before you built and sustained an internal image rooted in knowledge, skills and consistent results.

Hope this helps!

For me one of the interesting point is the ability to reflect my external image according to my internal image. It's like a recursvice process and It's very important to be aligned with personal values as it helps to adjust the way.

That's such a great way of putting it, to make your external image reflect your internal one. Don't mind if I borrow it! 😉

And you're right, personal values are the core of it, and it's actually the very first step I take people through when we discuss personal branding in my course.

Since I started writing my newsletter, I have received an offer for an internal move in my company, offers to do public speaking, offers to write and review a book and much more. All of these because of my new personal branding

Ultimately, curating a personal brand is a great way to cut through all the noise that internet and social media have brought forth. It’s equivalent to what pre-internet folks referred to as “showing up”.

Yes!! It's about leading with substance, not with appearance. And yes, it is "showing up", but not in just any way, but in an intentional aligned way.

'The best personal brands are rooted in authenticity. You have to show the real you to people. There is no hidden agenda or ill intent here.'

Absolutely, I think you can see right through when people aren't being authentic when building their personal brand.

The best content creators I see, such as yourself, are as authentic as they come, thanks for another great read as always!

‘The best personal brands are rooted in authenticity’: this is one of the things which really resonated with me. Very nicely articulated and informative article. How do you recommend one to identify the personal brand we already have ? And then how to make dedicated effort to align our public image with it.

Great read, Irina! Building a personal brand is also a good hedge against inflation of talent or ai advancement.

I would take a step back to think what I want others to know me for in 1/3 years and then regularly reassess wether I am doing enough to let others know that and what I am doing.
